For everyday use, Claude and ChatGPT cover the same basics: both work on the web, on your phone and on a computer, both remember things across chats, and both can look things up for you. The real difference in Claude vs ChatGPT for everyday use shows up in a handful of daily jobs, and below are seven of them with the app that fits each one better.
Everything here comes from Anthropic's and OpenAI's own pages, checked on October 28, 2026. Features differ by plan, so check what your account includes.
1. Asking quick questions on your phone
Tie. Anthropic lists Claude on iOS, Android, the web and desktop. ChatGPT runs on the web, in a desktop app and on mobile. For a fast answer while you are out, use whichever app you already have open.
2. Making a picture or editing a photo
ChatGPT. OpenAI's docs describe image generation and editing right in the chat, and you can attach a photo for ChatGPT to change or use as a reference. Anthropic's plan page does not list image generation for Claude.
3. Planning a trip or comparing products
ChatGPT, by a small margin. Its browser can open websites, gather current information and compare options across sites while you stay in control. Claude can search the web too, and Claude in Chrome brings it into your own browser, so it is close.
4. Sorting out a document or spreadsheet
Tie. Claude can create and edit files by running code, and Anthropic lists Docs and Slides tools. ChatGPT's Work mode turns a request into a document, presentation or spreadsheet you can review. Hand either one a messy budget and ask for a clean version.
5. Keeping a chat private
Claude. Its feature list includes incognito chats, and Anthropic lets individual users opt out of model training. Check each app's privacy settings before you share anything sensitive.
6. Getting answers that fit you
Tie. Claude keeps memory across conversations and has user preferences. ChatGPT has memories, custom instructions and a base style and tone you can set in Settings. Both get more useful the more you tell them about how you like answers.
7. Reminders and repeat jobs
Tie. Claude lists the option to hand off and schedule tasks. ChatGPT has scheduled tasks that run in the background, and you can see active, paused and finished ones in one list. Either can send you a weekly summary of something you care about.
The quick scorecard

So which should you install?
If you want one app for pictures and browsing, start with ChatGPT. If you care more about private chats and an assistant built around handing off tasks, start with Claude. Keeping both is a fine answer too, since neither one wins every job.
Both apps add features often, and this list will age. ClaudeGPT Si is a free AI news site that covers Claude and ChatGPT updates, and its apps section is the place to check what changed before you choose.
