Cursor Pro usage limits come from two monthly pools of included usage, one for Cursor's own models and one for other providers' models, and both reset with your billing date. Pro is now a legacy plan at $20 a month, so the limits work differently from the newer plans, and a free tracker like UsageAtlas is the easiest way to see how close you are before you run out.
Here are five things worth knowing if you are on Cursor Pro, or deciding whether to stay.
1. Pro is a legacy plan, and it still works
Cursor now sells plans under The X Subscription. Pro, Pro+ and Ultra are legacy Cursor plans that keep running at their old prices: Pro at $20 a month, Pro+ at $60 and Ultra at $200. New customers start on the new plans, but nobody on Pro is forced to move.
2. Your limit is two pools, not one
Pro includes a Cursor Models pool, for Grok and Composer, and an Other Models pool, for third-party models like Claude or GPT. Each has its own allowance. That means you can run out on one side while the other still has room, and switching models is sometimes all it takes to keep working. The model you pick also changes how fast either pool drains.
| Plan | Price | Included pools |
|---|---|---|
| Pro (legacy) | $20 a month | Cursor Models and Other Models |
| Pro+ (legacy) | $60 a month | Both, with more of each than Pro |
| Ultra (legacy) | $200 a month | Both, with more of each than Pro |
| Premium (current) | $30 a month | One weekly pool for Cursor's models; third-party billed from credit |
3. Limits reset monthly, and nothing rolls over
Pro usage resets with your billing cycle. The date sits on the Spending tab at cursor.com/dashboard, next to real-time usage for both pools and any on-demand charges. Usage you leave unspent does not carry into the next month.
4. Going past the limit is opt-in
When a pool runs out, Cursor shows a notice in the editor. On Pro, on-demand usage, which bills extra requests at API rates after the month ends, stays off until you turn it on. If you do enable it, set a spend limit too. Cursor notes that enforcement is not instant, so usage can slip slightly past the cap before it stops. Upgrading to Pro+ or Ultra is the other route to more included usage.
5. Switching to the new plans is permanent
Cursor lists Premium at $30 a month as the closest match for Pro. Premium uses one weekly pool shared with the Grok apps and no longer includes third-party models; those bill at API list price from prepaid credit. Cursor says the switch is optional and cannot be undone. If much of your coding runs on Claude or GPT, compare a typical month first.
The easy way to watch Pro usage
Opening the dashboard every hour gets old. UsageAtlas keeps your Cursor numbers on your desktop instead. It is free and open source, reads the Cursor app you are signed in to, and shows plan usage, Auto + Composer and API usage with the reset date. Set a threshold and it gives you one alert per reset cycle, before the limit notice appears. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, needs no account for local use, and also tracks Claude Code, Codex and other coding tools.
Its cost figures are estimates. For what you will actually be charged, Cursor's dashboard is the record, and if you only check usage once a month, the dashboard alone is fine.
