About the game

Our biggest jam game so far. We each wrote questions for the categories we know best, then checked each other's facts more than once. Quiz Compass is a trivia voyage on a painted sea chart. Spin the compass to pick a category: nature, history, science, geography, arts or sport. Answer the multiple-choice question before the hourglass runs out and that category’s badge comes aboard. Collect all six to make landfall at the next island. Every badge has its own shape as well as its colour, and every answer state is marked by shape too: a tick in a round mark for the right answer and a cross in a diamond for a wrong pick. Three wrong answers on one island and the hull gives out, so you sail back and try again. Finish with no wrong answers for three stars. You are not alone at sea. Pip the parrot, Olive the octopus and Tess the turtle sail the same route and move on with every question you answer. Reach the last harbour of a sea before all of them to win its crown; each new sea is a fresh race. Three power-ups help when you are stuck: remove two wrong answers, add ten seconds, or skip to another question in the same category. Three-star islands refill your hold. There are 30 islands in five seas, from easy questions in Lantern Shallows to hard ones in Far Horizon, and 971 original, fact-checked questions. No question repeats until you have seen every question of its kind.

How to play

Press Spin the compass (or Space) to pick a category; a star point lets you choose. Tap or click one of four answers, or press 1 to 4. A right answer brings that category’s badge aboard; six badges make landfall. Three wrong answers sink the leg. Power-ups: R removes two wrong answers, T adds ten seconds, S skips to another question. Enter continues, M toggles sound, Escape pauses. The timer can be set to 20 or 30 seconds or turned off in Settings.
