About the game

The board game I wanted at 12, now with rope bridges and fruit cards. My kids play it against me and the computer and they win most of the time. Treetop Ladders is a race to the top of the rainforest canopy. Roll the die, hop your animal along the leaf squares and race the others to the crown on the last square. Rope ladders and plank bridges carry you up. Green vines and blue slides take you back down. Every climb starts at a round brown badge with an up arrow and every drop at a pointed green badge with a down arrow, so you can read the board at a glance. The twist is the fruit cards. Each player gets one card for the game: a banana to throw the die again, a coconut that shields you from the first vine or slide you land on, or a kiwi that moves you one space more or less than your roll. Pick the right moment and a kiwi step turns a near miss into a long climb. Play with 2 to 4 animals, the monkey, parrot, frog and sloth, each with its own token shape. Any of them can be a person on the same device or a computer player, and computer turns can be sped up. Six boards grow from a small 6 by 6 grove to a 10 by 12 night canopy, with stars for finishing, winning and winning within par. A game in progress is saved, and the first game guides you through the rules.

How to play

Press Roll (or Space or Enter) to throw the die, and your animal hops that many squares. Landing on the start of a rope ladder or bridge (round badge, up arrow) climbs you up; a vine or slide (pointed badge, down arrow) takes you down. Land exactly on the last square to win: extra pips bounce you back. When your fruit card could help, you choose: keep the roll, use the banana to reroll, or the kiwi to step one space more or less (keys 1 to 3). The coconut blocks your first vine or slide by itself. Escape pauses.
